What Juul actually was

Juul was built by Nefarious Intent and trq, with contributions from Cedo, targeting MC 1.8.9 during intent.store's active window from 2020 to 2024. Its own record lists it as abandoned. That is not a knock, it is just what the record says: nobody has patched it for a server ruleset, or a Minecraft build, released after that window closed.

Its module count was genuinely small on purpose: about 18 across combat, movement, player, world, and render. Its own record calls the scope deliberately tight next to other intent.store-era clients running 50-plus modules, and that is a real design choice, not a missing feature list. Calling a client "focused" usually means someone gave up halfway through the roadmap. In Juul's case it seems to have actually meant it. What it never built was a second, quieter layer: there is no dedicated Disabler module, so whatever subtlety Juul had lived inside each module itself rather than a separate quiet mode sitting behind it.

Its InjectionAPI launcher deserves real credit: it extracted its own LWJGL and OpenAL natives on first run instead of depending on a pre-existing Minecraft launcher setup, and a reflection wrapper layer let one module roster run against MC 1.7.10 through MC 1.8.9 without a separate build per version. Solid engineering for a small standalone client, worth reading even if you never touch 1.8.9 again.

What Terminus is built for

Terminus is built for where Minecraft is actually played today: modern Minecraft, on Fabric, with combat tuned for BedWars and SkyWars-style minigames and broader multi-server range for everything else. It arrives as one package instead of a standalone jar you extract natives for yourself.

Modern multi-server coverage

Minigame-tuned combat with range across most other servers too.

Deep per-module customization

Settings built for actual tuning, not a fixed, tight list.

Desktop launcher

Log in and play, no manual native extraction or version-matching.

Config cloud

Sync a saved setup to any PC in seconds.

The same $45 purchase includes Opal Client free, itself an $8.99 hybrid client on its own, so a single payment gets you a currently maintained minigame client and a lighter companion underneath it.

An active client versus one that stopped selling

Juul was discontinued when intent.store's active window closed in 2024, and its own record documents no updates since. Terminus tracks modern Minecraft and is actively maintained in 2026. If you are actually deciding what to run this year, only one of these two is still for sale, let alone still getting updates.

When Juul is the better call

Be honest with yourself about what you actually need.

Where Juul wins

  • You specifically play MC 1.8.9-era servers and already have a working install from the intent.store days
  • You want to study the cross-version reflection wrapper pattern or the native-extracting launcher as a piece of client engineering
  • You want the smallest possible module list to learn, essentials only, not a long settings tree

Where it falls short

  • No updates since 2024, and no path forward to a modern Minecraft version
  • No dedicated quiet or ghost mode, just the modules themselves
  • Not currently purchasable; intent.store's active window has closed
  • No second client bundled in

Which one should you pick?

Juul was a period client for 1.8-era PvP servers, and it has not been sold or updated since intent.store went quiet in 2024. Terminus is a live product for modern Minecraft, with a launcher, a dashboard, a config cloud, and Opal Client bundled in for the same $45. If you remember Juul and want to know what a comparable, currently maintained client looks like, that comparison lands squarely on Terminus.
