What is Surround in Minecraft?

Surround is a combat module that automatically places blocks around the player to block incoming attacks. It shows up almost exclusively in crystal PvP, where it walls the player in so a retaliatory end crystal or respawn anchor explosion has nothing solid to detonate against near their hitbox. Instead of stopping mid-fight to place blocks by hand, the player just keeps swinging. It's automation with a high bar for detection: a server has to notice that a player is placing blocks on multiple sides in the same instant, something no human hand can do.

How it works

Surround checks the space immediately around the player on a loop. Wherever a side is open, it places a block there straight from the player's inventory. The important part is that it acts on every open side at once rather than the one direction a player can actually look toward and place against, so it walls someone in far faster than manual play allows. It keeps re-checking too, so if a block gets broken mid-fight and a gap opens back up, Surround fills it again on the next pass.

The speed matters because mid-fight, blocks are getting broken as fast as they're placed. An opponent targeting your walls while you're boxing yourself in means gaps reopen constantly. A manual player can only patch one side per click. Surround patches every open side every tick, turning a losing race into an instant fortress.

Manual boxing vs the automated module

Boxing yourself in during a fight is not, on its own, against the rules anywhere. It is a well-known crystal PvP technique that players do by hand constantly: look at a gap, place a block, look at the next one, place again. Surround does the exact same thing, just without the looking part.

That is the whole gap between "legitimate technique" and "cheat module." A human can only face and place against one block face at a time. Surround places on every open face in the same instant, which is not a speed upgrade so much as a different category of action entirely. It is the automation, not the boxing, that turns a normal fight habit into a detectable one.

Is Surround safe to use?

Not really, and the reasons are mechanical, not just policy. When a player places blocks on multiple sides of themselves within the same short window, an anticheat that checks placement rotation against the block face being placed on will find a mismatch no legitimate player could produce. Placement timing tighter than a human look-and-click cycle is the other tell. And because Surround keeps firing for the whole fight rather than as a single action, that pattern repeats often enough for server-side checks to catch it on more than one hit.

Terminus does not ship a module under this name. What Terminus does build is combat tooling for the same fights Surround is meant for, which means the design questions (timing, rotation, how much automation is worth the risk) are ones we think about constantly even when the answer for a given feature is "don't."
